The Real Jesus

He was called.  He was appointed.  He was anointed.  He was sent.  First and foremost, Jesus was a Preacher.  He had Fire in His bones, Oil on His head and a Sword in His mouth.  However, His outward qualifications would not be adequate to place Him in a modern ministry.  His demeanor would not qualify Him to be a successful preacher in the setting of today’s church.  His education would be lacking and His experience inadequate to qualify Him for a successful pastoral position in today’s religious world.  He did not dress like a preacher.  He did not keep company with preachers or with people preachers normally keep company with.  He did not act like a preacher, talk like a preacher, or live like a preacher.  He did not have a preachers’ education or a preachers’ credentials.  Yet, He was and is the Son of God.  He was a preacher.  Ahead of His time but in tune with His Father.  He was consumed with His Call.  I have tried to notice some characteristics in His Life that probably would not be accepted in the life of any preacher in our society today.  He is not who most people think He is.  He was not what most people think He was.

            He was Radical.

He was Outspoken.  He pulled no punches.  He shot straight and true.  He did not “beat around the bush.”

He was transparent.  Who you saw was Who He was.  No pretense.  No hypocrisy.  No make-believe.  No disguise.

He was non- religious.  Did not run with the ministerial crowd.

He was fearless.  Bold.  He did not mince His words.  He did right with no fear of consequences.

He was an iconoclast.  A Non-conformist.  He kicked over sacred cows.  He violated traditions and He shattered customs.  To the religious world, He was a troublemaker.

He was controversial.  He took sides with the underdog and He challenged the respected.  He fellowshipped with the sinner and the profane.  He embraced the simple and rejected the complicated.  He spoke so little children could understand and confounded the wise with Wisdom and Truth.

He was Uncompromising.  Even when He could have won friends in high places and saved His own life, He refused to compromise.

He was Anointed.  And this is what drove Him to the Cross… His Anointing.  He was and is “The Anointed One.”  The Messiah.  The Christ.

WWJD.  If I dared (or any preacher dared) to do what Jesus did, the majority would leave the church.  They would attempt to do to me the same thing they did to Jesus.  Tell lies.  Fabricate allegations.  Look for flaws.  Falsely accuse.  And the crowds would dwindle.  The support would wane.  My “popularity” would decline and my friends would leave.  “This is a hard saying…”

John 6:60   Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

John 6:66   From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

John 6:67   Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

You know why?  Because I would not be patronizing the people.  I would not tip toe around their petty feelings.  I would not put up with silly stuff that wounds and hurts and defrauds simply to avoid conflict.  I would name names and specify sin.  I would publicly announce the hypocrite and shout from the housetop their sin… specifically and pointedly.

The majority could not stand the “hard saying” of the Word of God.  They are too intent on remaining comfortable.  They are too set in their ways.  They are too determined to have their way and do their thing.  They want Salvation and sin.  They want Heaven when they act like hell.  They want the benefits of Salvation without the responsibility of Living like Jesus.  This is going to change.  Reckoning time has arrived.  The King has come to Town.

Matt. 21:8   And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strowed them in the way.

Matt. 21:9   And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

Matt. 21:10   And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

Matt. 21:11   And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

Praise rang out.  Crowds gathered.  A parade took place.  Rejoicing was everywhere.  The King had come to town.  This was a divine convergence of time and eternity.  In time, God foreordained that Jesus would enter the sphere of human existence.   In eternity, God planned for the redemption of the fallen human race.  And now, time and eternity came into a divine convergence…. they meet.  They intersect.  They collide.
We are at a similar place.

Time, today, is converging with eternity.  Just as Jesus came “in the fullness of time” we are coming into another fullness of time and it will shortly blend in with eternity.  The temporal is about to become eternal.  This is why this moment is so crucial.  This is the reason the anointing is mounting and the glory of God is rising.  This is the reason behind Revival.  This is the reason behind our Praying.  Our Intercession.  We are at The Place.  We are in The Time.  There is once again a Divine Convergence of Time with Eternity.  We are There.

When Jesus comes to the city, He provokes a polarization in the camp.  The wheat begins to be divided from the chaff.  There is a line of demarcation. There is a division.  Did He not say He has come to bring a division?

Luke 12:51   Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

How have we come to believe and accept that we can have our sin and be saved?  Live in our rebellion and still please God?  Continue in our rotten attitudes and yet be delivered?  Where have we gotten this deceptive sense of false security?  What is it going to take to convince us that we cannot serve God and mammon?  You cannot have two masters.  You cannot live a divided life.  It is One or the other.  It is God or the devil.  It is right or wrong.  It is Heaven or hell.

People want to see Jesus.  But you cannot see Jesus and ignore the Truth.  Jesus and Truth are synonymous.  They want to see the Glory of God.  But you will never see the Glory of God by continuing in rebellion and sin.  The world is tired of seeing Church and

Performance and Form and Custom.  They want to see Jesus.  I want to see Jesus.  Jesus has been buried under Religion and the traditions of men and doctrines that have sanitized God and left the miraculous out of the Bible.  People are tired of Professional Preachers and Social Churches.  “Pulpiteers” are no better than “musketeers” or “musketeers.”  We have kept Jesus covered and hidden by our veneer of hypocrisy.  What we do speaks louder than what we say.  Who we really are overshadows what people see.

It is not great preaching that is needed or great preachers… People need to see Jesus.  People want to see Jesus.  People must see Jesus.  When Jesus is welcomed in our churches… crowds will follow.  Because where Jesus is… God is.  And were God is… the devil isn’t.

This church (and any church) will touch the Heart of God… if we allow people to see JESUS and not us.  Can others see the JESUS in you?  or is the Jesus in you hidden by the you in you?

Jesus draws crowds…  not gimmicks, contests, covered dinners, homecomings, band concerts or free pizza.  It is JESUS that people want to see and it is JESUS that people need.   Only Jesus can change your situation.  Only Jesus can bring you into Victory Living.  Only Jesus can deliver you and make you free.  Only Jesus can satisfy the hunger in your heart.

The first thing the religious bunch wanted to do was to destroy Him.

Mark 11:18   And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

            They did not like Him.

They did not like what He did.  (He messed up their Theology.)

He cleansed the Temple.  He reestablished its purpose.

He drove out the hypocrites and the game players in church.

They did not like what He said.  He told them to do stuff they did not want to do.

He pointed out their sin and their hypocrisy. They did not like the way He talked and what He called them. (Thieves, Hypocrites, Serpents, Vipers, Dead Men’s Bones, Whited Sepulchers,  Unclean,  Full of Iniquity.)

They were afraid of Him because He was drawing bigger crowds than they were.  (Because when Jesus spoke, things happened.)  Their message was dead, dry, and useless.  They had form but no fire.  They had the Letter but no Life.  When they preached, nothing happened.

            The sick stayed sick.

            The lost stayed lost.

            The afflicted stayed afflicted.

            The oppressed stayed oppressed.

            The poor stayed poor.

            The sad stayed sad.

(My greatest concern is that nothing will happen in church on Sunday.)  However, my greatest assurance is that the Gospel we preach is the Power of God unto Deliverance and that the Word we preach will not return void but will accomplish that which pleases God…  It will.  It will.  It will.  Just you wait and see… It will.

Something happens when Jesus shows up.  There is always Joy when Jesus shows up.   This is why we Celebrate.  This is why we Dance.  This is why we Laugh.  This is why we run.  This is why we leap.  This is why we Sing.  This is why we March.  This is why we Rejoice.  Jesus always brings GLADNESS and JOY when He comes to town.   The people wanted to PARADE because they knew that their KING had come to town.  Every service should be a Celebration.  Every meeting should be a Praise Parade.  Exuberance is the natural reaction to the Greatness of God and the Power of the Word.

We are entering into a new dimension of celebration, praise, and worship.  Our worship will become more like heaven’s worship.  We have just begun and the best is yet to be.  The Victor’s Song will be our song and the Victory Dance will be our dance.  Jesus has come to Mobile and we will CELEBRATE.

Hypocrisy is the curse of the moment.  In society.  And in the church.

            1.  Get real.  Be serious.  You are not fooling God.

            2.  Forget the past.  Let bygones be bygones.

            3.  Consider Others before yourself.  Stop being so selfish.

            4.  Don’t play games with God.  Get off your religious kick.

            5.  Don’t miss the Revival.  Get in the flow.

            6.  Don’t miss heaven.  Don’t be a hypocrite.

Shocking, but true:

            1.  More are going to hell than heaven.

Matt. 7:13   Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

            2.  Many who think they are going to heaven, aren’t.

Matt. 7:21   Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matt. 7:22   Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matt. 7:23   And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

            3.  Nobody knows when their last chance will come.

Prov. 27:1   Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

            4.  Born twice:  die once.   Born once:  die twice.

            5.  Do not be deceived.

Matt. 5:44   But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

1John 4:8   He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

What about you?  Where will YOU spend ETERNITY?
